Thai Cuisine @ Wang Thai Restaurant

In Penang neighboring PulauTikus area, have a lot of Thai Restaurant now, some are hiding and some are expose. I’ve been visiting Annathai-Kitchen,Sukhothai Beef Noodles House,& now the newest outlet in Penang – Wang Thai Restaurant.

Mostly desert will be at the last, but today I will start with desert due to I’m the late comer, Tub Tim Krob become my starter of today. The water chestnut served together with slices of jackfruit and topped with mild sweetened coconut milk. This recipe is very tasty and refreshing.

The next dessert was the KhaoNeowMamuang. Sticky rice serves with fresh slices mango, with a touch of sweetened coconut milk and garnished with deep fried beans.

A great opening appetizer Wang Thai restaurant serve is Mieng Kam, one of the dish that most diners would place order. It combine with wild betel leaves, wrap in peanuts, ginger, onion, dried shrimps , chili, coconut slices and lime cubes & topped with sweet & salty sauce. I love this dish; it’s so refreshing and delicious with all the mixture of different flavors in one tiny packet…yummy!

Next on would be Yum PlaDuk Fu, this dish shredding the catfish and frying it creates a cloud of delicious crispinessserve together with mango strips, onion slices, carrot, bird eyes chili, peanut and topped with sweet and sour sauce, the perfect balance is created. This dish need to be consumed immediately as the dressing from the mango salad will cause the fish loss its crispness.

Yum Cha-Om TodKrob serves next, this dish almost similar with Yum PlaDuk Fu, the different between is only it serve with deep fried crispy cha-om leaves & topped with sweet & sour Thai sauce, the rest combination would be the same with Yum PlaDuk Fu.

One of my favorite dish here is GaengMassamanGai. A rich mild chicken curry cooked in massaman curry paste and coconut milk with tamarind sauce, ground cinnamon, potatoes, carrots and peanuts. If serve with roti bread, it would be perfect.

Most of the time when you visit Thai restaurant, one of the dish you won’t miss is Tom Yam. Tom Yam RuamMitTalay is the chosen one. The soup surrounding with prawns, fish, squids, oyster mushroom, tomatoes with some chopped spring onions and coriander. It is sour and spicy.

Tom Yam RuamMitTalay (Mixed Seafood Spicy Thai Tom Yam – RM21.90)
PlaKra Pong NeungManow was 1 of the non-miss dish in Thai restaurant too.The barramundi(Siakap) fish steamed with lime juice, garlic, lemongrass, galangal, bird eyes chili, chilies, onion, ginger, sugar and also topped with some pepper mint leaves. The taste is more on sour base; serve with rice is just good.

Overall, the dishes, ambient & environment were just nice. Most of the recommended signature dishes here are more near to sour and spicy taste as personal noticing. For those spicy lovers, can have a try here.
