Durian Review @ Ah Joo Durian Stall Sungai Batu

Finally I get my 1st ever durian food review in the middle of the durian season. Very sad that this year durian doesn't have the "oomph" compared with last year. Not everyone like the taste of durian, so will feel the taste like shit but some like it very much. This time I've been joining a few blogger & have a fruit hunting at "Ah Joo Durian Stall" Sungai Batu, Teluk Kumbar.

If you know how to going to Penang International Airport by using Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, it might don't have any problem for you to find the stall. As you reach the airport entrance “Y” junction, turn right and go over the flyover into Jalan Bayan Lepas. Drive on until you have reached the Jalan Permatang Damar Laut junction. Drive straight until next prominent landmark which would be the Emerald Park/Krystal Country Homes on your left. Drive further until you see the Teluk Kumbar Mosque, Kampung Sungai Batu. Slow down and watch out for Ah Joo’s Durian Stall just a few meters away on your right next to Forever Star Electrical and Plumber Trading. Below show the photo's that whereby the mosque & Forever Star Electrical and Plumber Trading.

Along the road

What is the taste of durian? It's hard to describe, and it depends on whether you like the fruit or not.

As far as just the sensation on your tongue goes, it's sweet and creamy. Or the best stuff is anyway. Imagine   nougat that's soft and melts in your mouth slowly.

The smell's something else. The closest thing it smells like to me is unlit gas from your stove, but sweeter. Not quite as sickly sweet as the smell of petroleum. Fragrant to me, stinky to others.

Below show a few kinds of durian we try

D14,  RM12/kg
It is medium sweet with low bitterness.

Kim Poh,  RM12/kg
Even it is a bit watery, but the taste sweet, creamy & bitterness, my choice of the day.

24,  RM12/kg
Even the surface look nice, but taste only sweet nor bitterness
Kunyit / Musang King, RM20/kg
Although it is the most expensive & famous in this year, but not my choice, creamy texture with medium sweet and bitterness.

Beside durian, a few famous local fruits such as mangosteen, cempedak & rambutan also available there.
It only cost RM4 /per kg, if you take 3kg only for RM10.

If you got 5 person above & very interest in eating durian, you can go for durian buffet. It is worth for the person who is interested to have multiple choice of durian choosing. It only cost you RM30 per person.
